Optimization-based worst-case analysis, referred to as counter optimization, aims at driving the system under test as close as possible to - or even beyond - the admissible limit performance. This analysis allows for the efficient identification of design weak points or, more generally, regions of presumed worst-case performance. Such information is extremely valuable for the design, verification, and validation of complex systems, especially if obtained in early stages of the development process. The presentation provides an overview of different counter optimization approaches and presents multiple application examples from industry.
